Missionary Recruit~ Can that really be me?!
These are the thoughts that I shared with my Plainfield Christian Church Family on December 20, 2009 about my calling to Tanzania, Africa.
One of my earliest memories at church is being in the basement of the building on Buchanan St. It must have had something to do with mission’s week but they had created an atmosphere for us to explore different cultures. I remember being fascinated and intrigued by the word missionary. Loving people around the world became more real to me. Many more teaching moments were to follow and by my experiences with Peggy discovered my giftedness and heart for kids. VBS is always the climax of these two for me. Standing up here watching this room filled with kids anticipating and excited about reaching the missions goal. The Spirit moves in a breath taking way. The spirit also began to move that week within me personally as well. Todd & Tami expressed one of the dreams of Tanzanian Team was to better educate the children both at the training center and in the bush. I visited in October in hopes to experience the culture to be an effective resource. As I stood outside the school room with the African kids glancing at the completed training center by our PCC kids I was moved. Indeed “Look What God is Doin.” Dr. Grubbs a missionary dr. in Africa for many years describes it in his book though the environment foreign, and life is difficult, some “catch” Africa. Returning to this platform now as one who has seen the faces of Africa and walked the dusty roads I have been caught and called to return. With the Lord’s help I can use my love for people and heart for kids to explore the educational needs and evangelize to the people of Tanzania. It will be hard to leave my direct responsibilities here but to continue to be an effective teacher I must step in faith and say here am I send me.
