Today was my day to be with the adults. I have written a lesson that helps each family share their culture and rights of passage to partner with exploring how to pass the blessing of knowing Christ to our children. There is a lot to uncover but as always I am amazed how the Spirit works and we are the vessel. There are elements of the Old Testament with Abraham we explore to the arrival of Christ. It was very exciting to unravel these truths with these families.
There is a couple within the class (Yohana and Eliszabeti) who had a young child that is no longer living. They do not have any children now and I knew today would one of the harder lessons. I was sensitive encouraging the group that in their villages there are so many lost children who need to be loved. During the afternoon we began diving into everyday applications along with larger applications of the blessing. As the afternoon went on I became convicted of praying a blessing over the couple with no children. I placed my hands on them and thanked God for their faithfulness. I shared that even though Sara and Elisabeth had to wait upon the Lord their faithfulness was rewarded. I prayed that their descendants would be many as they share the blessing with all those in their area. As I spoke these words from the back I could see tears streaming down both of their faces. The class surrounded them in care and prayer. I prayed for a child and that all fears would be cast aside. This was a very special time and I ask that you keep praying for heart of faithfulness and blessings as they share their faith.
To close the class they acted out the story of Mary and Joseph presenting Jesus in the temple. They were to put the story in their context. Simeon's blessing was to be written by the entire class. All the kids and I waited for their performance of the passage in the banda outside. They used the Banda as their church. They all came out and took their places. Singing began as church was started. Mary, Joseph, and Jesus the new baby born came from the classroom door venturing to church. Singing remained and the baby was presented at the door held in high regard. The baby was presented to Anna and Simeon. As the blessing was said, prayers echoed in the background, and even through in the different language tears welled in my eyes. The passion and conviction that they were praying over this child was well ~ special. It was heartfelt and true. Scripture was read and singing rang all across the center. (I have tried to upload the video taken but I can't get it to take.)
I am not sure who continues to teach who more around here but I know one thing for sure that today was indeed a blessing.
