Today was a BIG day of translating lessons and worksheets to prepare for Kids Training Start-up! Many of the materials that I have are in English. In the past I have verbally translated the worksheets and then the teachers give the instructions to the kids. Translating these worksheets will empower the teachers to pick and choose what to do. Allowing them to do more planning on their own. It will also provide the worksheets to be in Kiswahili for the kids to take home.
Elinora who is our current teaching assistant came to help me today. She has very good English skills. This provided Swahili practice for me!! Elinora took the more difficult translations while I took simpilar ones and we were at it ALL day! At the end of the day we had them all at least hand written. I will go back through and type the instructions out in Kiswahili. Then, cut the activity pictures out and paste onto the Kiswahili instructions. Completing this task will make the learning activities in both English and Swahili.
My brain is a little fried tonight. I am excited that there is so much more that I understand after language school. I still get frustrated and there is a lot yet to learn! I understand the sequences, patterns, and can critically pick a part a sentence. This is a task that before school I didn't even know how to start! Thanks to school and the help of Elinora the task is well on its way to being complete!
Prayer Points~
- Elinora will be going to University in Dar-es-Salam in two weeks. She is going to study to be a doctor! We are very happy for her but that means we will be loosing her within the classroom. I knew this was coming soon but she got called to report to school sooner than she and I thought. Pray for Elinora and her schooling! We need Doctors in this country for sure!
- ask the Lord to guide the right spirited person to become our new teaching assistant. May the Lord grant me wisdom as I interview and make a good decision of someone to work with Annah (our lead teacher.)
- May these lessons be shared with love to the kids who are preparing to come. May these activities be a tool that creates a love of learning and a love for the God of ALL knowledge!
