Wilderness First Aid Course

I am now certified in Wilderness First Aid!  I took a course this week that was so informative and helpful in a place where medical care is not always available.  The instructor was great!  Information from addressing critical systems, insect and snake bites, tropical illnesses, allergies, wound dressings etc.  911 is not a solution for medical emergencies in this country.  One has to treat most things yourself with air evacuation as the solution for critical cases.  The information helps me to feel better prepared about my care and the care of those I'm responsible.  The picture to the left is me ready to be transported in our pretend wound cleaning assimilation.  We were given a piece of a raw chicken that had a bleeding wound, gravel imbedded, and a stick puncture.  We were to properly clean the wound, decide if the object can be removed/or not, dress the wound, and stabilize it for transport.  So, my gloved hand  became the home of the slab of wounded raw chicken.  I am grateful for this doctor who lead the course.  It was a great way to refresh my knowledge of basic first aid and learn a great deal of additional wilderness knowledge!

Prayer Points~

  • I am excited to teach the adults (parents of "my" kids) this week!  We will be discussing the art of "The Blessing."  Passing down a heritage of faith to their children.  We study many of the Old Testament scriptures of rites of passage of the patriarchs.  Many of the tribes have customs that are similar to those of the Old Testament.  Unfortunately, some of their practices are influenced by witch craft.  We discuss what we see in scriptures to bring light to dark places of cultural upbringing.  Pray for these families as they know who they are as a tribe, in Christ, and to pass faith to their children.  Pray for wisdom for me as I facilitate this week and our discussions.
