1, 2, 3, 4...


I can't remember the day or time that I learned to count~ 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. I do know that there has not been a day where I have not used one of those numbers! To think the building block of numbers was learned at such a young age. Numbers has never been my strong suite but I have come a long way from counting crayons.

However, I found myself revisiting that long forgotten era of my life. Learning Swahili is no easy task but so vital to my new life. I set out on my language learning time with numbers earlier this week. Moja, mbili, tatu, nne, tano, sita, nane, tisa, and kumi. Still a long way to go but a sense of accomplishment!

The following morning I found myself struggling with how far I have to go with language. For a reminder of why I am doing this and my observation time I headed to the classroom. Olas was working on~ Guess? numbers! I sat down next to this precious little boy who is pictured above. He proudly showed me his work. They were practising writing numbers. Struggling with his sevens he looked up at me and in Swahili said, "teach me." I was able to help him learn how to write his sevens. Upside down sevens probably will not get one very far! He was able to write his seven and I was able to say it! So, simple yet so grand!

In the same way as that little boy expressed his desire to be taught, I find myself looking to the heaven's with the same plea filled look~ Teach me! May the Lord continue to grant us the wisdom and guidance. I find myself being continually grateful for precious moments like these to know He is here and working among us! We have come a long way from counting crayons or have we?
