Milo the African Dog!

I was reading in my culture shock module the other day and it described the transfer from one culture to another as that of a plant being transplanted. Being a visual minded person I could identify with the picture. Having to let go or cut from what was familiar to a soil that is so different. Your roots haven't had time to anchor in but slowly I begin to feel the growth taking place. I have found myself somewhat in limbo. You can't do the things you once thought were so common and yet not really integrated into the new. I love the experiences and slowly find myself finding life taking root here. I only pray that because of the grace of God much fruit will come.

Speaking of becoming one with the African Culture! Milo is ahead of me on this one. I have described in other posts that construction is all around our spot on the center. They have dug trenches for elec. lines, Internet, etc. The night was so pretty and the stars so bight Annelle and I took a walk through the center. I let Milo stay back in the Price's backyard to play with his new friends Lady and Sampson. The stars are amazing here in the darkness of the night in the southern hemisphere! We returned from our walk and I found it somewhat odd that Milo was not at the gate to greet us. I looked around but didn't even hear him. As I glanced to my left I found his little head, with glowing eyes in the night, he had fallen in the one of the small trenches. He was just a diggin tiring to get out and I couldn't help but laugh! I turned to Annelle and said, "Milo is ahead on fully transferring to his new culture." For there in the trench was my African Dog covered in dirt! No longer was he as white as snow but as black as the night. We laughed so hard but he probably didn't think it was as funny. I pulled him out and he was just covered in dirt. I took him up to the bathtub at Scott and Annelle's for a bath. I have never seen such dirty water. The picture below does not do justice but here is my little Africa partner assimilating to his new environment!
Prayer Points~
  • The entire team is leaving at farious times to travel to the coast for our spiritual retreat and Field Team Meetings. A very important time of bonding, resting, and planning for the year. We are headed to the Kenyan Coast (Malindi) for this venture!
  • The students are traveling back to their villages for a three week break. Pray for them as they begin to implement some of the things they have learned within the last six weeks.
