The Sounds of Singing...

Each morning the families who are here for training begin their day before class in song! Typically one voice leads while the others sing in response. There is something about the song and dance of Africans both young and small. It teaches me a great deal. Life here has a different rthymn for sure. I am learning a new way of doing things all the time. I get my water in a basin from the shower facet to pour into the filter so I can have a drink. It is different than the luxury I may have had in the States. However, on my morning walk with Tami I see young children walking probably for miles with water or guiding donkeys with water jugs strapped to their backs. A drive in town I'll see a man who has an entire cart filled with water jugs pulling it with sweat pouring off his face or a woman with a Huge jug on her head. The Africans work so hard for many of the things that I once took for granted. (Well for those who know me and my house I suppose the water thing is a bad example! God was just prepping me!!) The beauty is if you join the rthymn there is a whole new song to sing.

The workers outside my door sing sometimes while they work! It is very festive outside my door from sunup to sundown! The "Rondavul" that many of you helped through your support of my coming to Africa is just about constructed! I am living in one half of a "Rondavul" which has my bed, a living area, a desk, and some kitchen equipment. The other half is a guest area. The additional "Rondavul" will be a kitchen, pantry, living area, and laundry area. The outside is done and the cabinets were being custom made today!! You will all be pleased that Milo has taken his job as supervisor very seriously! So much so it has really cramped his napping schedule! His head peers out of the gate space and makes sure they are working up to snuff! I will hear them greet Milo and there is a better friendship/partnership that is simmering on the start of our second week here! Milo still has a song he likes to sing! Speaking of Life is hard~ let me tell you about this construction process. Well, I can't really but these guys amaze me! Because, I know this will surprise you, there are no Home Depot's in this part of the woods! These guys are mixing concrete with a shovel and then sculpting fence posts with a hand tool. They are drying in the sun and I am fascinated (so is Milo!) I will try to send pictures soon.

I hope my favorite sound will always be the songs of the children! They love to sing and dance. Right now until I get a handle on Swahili dancing and laughing is what we have that breaks all language barriers. The kids think if they get a little closer in my face and talk a little louder than I am eventually going to get it! But, then that is the beauty of the rhythm. You move like the wind and with the Power of the Mighty God he helps you to Sing!

"I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live."
Psalm 104:33
