After the morning drill of getting body, soul, and mind ready I set on the continual task of getting the curriculum ready for the start of training! Our next group of students will begin training on August 9th. Even though I taught some of the Bible Lessons with the kids I mostly did a great deal of observing. Combined with my observations, some research, and cultural awareness I continue the task to form the curriculum to be more in sink with our vision and foundational learning for the kids.
My morning was devoted to putting some of the brainstorming and creativity in my head on paper for the above task. As overwhelming as it seems sometimes the bulk of the time was thrilling to think of things the kids can learn and with what little is in front of me to make it happen! I have labeled most of my craft projects "trash into treasure!" I am getting pretty creative with the raw materials at my finger tips! Activities for learning numbers, letters, Bible Stories, English, Swahili, and more are dancing on my little plan book. I am very excited to have kids back on the Center and even more excited to see what God will do with their time here! I am praying for my planning time next week with Olais and Mary as we implement new things and as I teach to in reality teach them to teach. May we continue to be a great trio teaching team with the kids.
Monday afternoons are team prayer time. There were only a small few of us but a mighty few! We pray for each other, ministry activities, the church planters, our loved ones in the States, upcoming training, etc. Oh and our well! Yes, our pump for our well went out and here in the beginning stages of the dry season is not good. But, we got a new pump and the workers somehow dropped it to the bottom of the well. So, the workers have spent all week sending pipe and chain down the well to retrieve the much needed pump. And you know how I talked about limited resources for crafts? Well, there are about the same resources for getting a pump out of the bottom of the well~ Life in Africa! So join us as we pray for all those things even our long lost pump!
Then, I trucked like a champ to language which I do not always feel like a champ in! Swahili is a fun language to speak but messes with your brain! Most phrases are backwards from how we form sentences so it can really confuse the brain cells! I have a great desire to learn how to communicate with my friends but it is challenging! I find that I can understand more even if I don't always know how to respond. But, then that makes sense if I think about development and how babies begin to recognize words before they can talk. If language isn't exciting enough then I get to hop in my little car and bounce up and down the center road taking my tutor home!
When the sun goes down things get quiet and there isn't a whole lot of activity. Milo is snuggled next to me asleep after a full day watching the workers and playing with Sampson and Lady! My evening is writing to you all about my day!
Hope you enjoy and keep lifting us up in Prayer here in Tanzania!
Wendy thank you so much for sharing with us a day in your life. It means so much and it helps us to know how and what to pray for.
