Lynda and I were asked to return to the area to meet with the teachers who are conducting the preschool classes in the churches that I helped establish several years ago. With a loaded Land Cruiser we trekked up over the ridge and into the quiet valley. A valley once filled in darkness of witchcraft now in the light of Jesus. Where the leaders now hope that the next generation will grow up knowing Jesus and be educated in the land they call home.
We had an interesting time setting up camp with the rain that came in and brought the darkness with it. Lynda and I laughed as we were wet and cold trying to get our tent up in the down pour. The next day we were able to visit the Pre-Primary and Class 1 Classes that are meeting at the church. The kids are filled with such joy and great potential. It is not hard to fall immediately back in love with each little face.
Lynda and I had the opportunity to encourage and teach the teachers on that Saturday. There are several young men born within the area who have gone on to be educated now ready for training to teach back within their homeland. It is exciting to see how God has worked in these lives and the potential.
More rain set in and we were bummed that we could not stay for church but we needed to try to beat the rain. To say that we had an eventful time trying to get up out of the valley in the rain and mud is an understatement. Because of the kindness of our Maasai friends we were able to pull ourselves out of some very muddy ugly situations. Lynda was my guide as I drove through each tricky patch. It makes the older generation's story I heard growing up about the difficulty of walking to school look like a picnic. It was a bit stressful but we worked together and with God's umbrella of Protection finally reached home before dark.
We are in prayer about the vision and process of continuing to bring Christ-Centered Education to the remote village of Enkewa. 2016 continues to be a very exciting year! Please join us in prayer!
