Naples was the port, Pompeii/Amalfi were the sites

This was to be our home for the next 12 nights.  The Celebrity Silhouette and man was she BIG!  It was like a floating city and most of the time as she glided into ports we were taller than most buildings!  But, I'll talk more about fun on the Silhouette on a day in our itinerary when we were at sea.

We arrived in Naples the next morning which Paul also landed in the Bay of Naples on his way to Rome!  We did on our way from Rome.

I couldn't believe that I was walking in and through a town that was founded in the seventh or sixth century BC!  Romans captured the city in 80 BC making it a Roman city/town.  I couldn't believe that the population was probably 20,000 with complex water system, an amphitheater  gymnasium  and a port.  I travel to many remote areas with much much less today!  The eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD ended it all.  Not a very nice way to leave this Earth!  Mt. Vesuvius was difficult for us to see because it was hiding in the rain clouds that we hoped held off.  But we managed a few sights of her.  We walked for all
morning through roads, homes and baths of wealthy, water wells, and the area of artifacts being preserved. It was a bit chilly so when we stopped for lunch it was a nice break.  More mouth watering Italian Food was consumed for us to be on to our next adventure.

We traveled a boat that traveled a bit up the coast of Italy viewing some of the little villages along the way.  It was cloudy but it was a bit mystical as the clouds hung over the hills.

We wondered around a little town called Amalfi and by that time it was kinda grand to walk in and through streets with live activity instead of ruins!  We found a cute little place to have coffee and then was on our way back to the small boat to get back on the BIG boat!

It was a bit of a rainy, cold, and tired boat ride back but it was well worth the adventure.  Next stop Valletta, Malta.
