Tanzanian Hospitality

This is Lomanyani and his family otherwise known as Momma and
Baba Joyce. Tanzanians are typically called by the first name of their first born. (I am known in most cases as Da Da Wendy which is Sister Wendy or teacher.)
Lomanyani joined our CMF family here working very closely with
Todd and the training activities. He is our translator and is a very

respectable man of God. He is a great asset to our team and help to us especially with cultural matters! Lomanyani also is gracious to be my Swahili tutor. He works with me two days a week on learning the language. A task for both of us.

They were kind to invite Todd, Tami, and myself into their home for lunch on Saturday. They live just down the road from the Center so not far to venture. We were welcomed and sat while Momma Joyce prepared the food. A basin is brought out for us to wash our hands. Sitting in the living room we were served Ugali which is rice and a meat sauce mixture. We also enjoyed chapati, oranges, and chicha. We are always served first and everyone else eats later. It is good but sometimes has a funny way of sitting in your stomach. (Tami and I call it Africa stomach!) You kinda feel like a beached whale sometimes for awhile! I know that doesn't sound like a yummy way to spend a meal but believe me it is worth it. The people are so very gracious and thrilled to have you in their home. I have learned a lesson though. I have got to eat slower so they don't keep filling my plate! But, in the end the Africa stomach always calms down but the relationships lasts forever!
