Learning, Learning, Learning

Learning: In any country any age sometimes we do not always like having to be a learner. Sometimes the kids get a little frustrated and for not being in any type of instruction like this I am sure there are moments when they wish they could just play. Since I can not always understand what they are saying. I am not always completely sure their responses. However, this morning warmed my heart when two of the kids (two I would not guessed) immediately sat at the table and said, "I am ready to learn this morning!" Bless Them
They sat at the table while the rest of their classmates came right in the door and headed for the toys. But, they also bypassed sitting on the floor in front of the calendar where they do their morning songs, greetings, and calendar. They went right to the round tables where we do our instruction and center time. I am glad that I am a part of instilling a love of learning at this impressionable age.
Bubbles, Bubbles
The only thing better than watching African children with play dough
for the first time is watching them blow bubbles for the first time.
I made bubble solution and took the youngest kids outside while the older
ones were working on their letters. The older kids sometimes over power the
little ones so I took them outside for some special time. They are
easier for me to teach because they are used to watching.
So they watch me for what to do. I showed them how to blow bubbles and
I loved watching them figure out how to do a task. These steps are really
important for them to work on. Which is not always a technique taught in the
schools in this country. Hopefully by this image you can imagine the little laughs
and cackles. The sounds were precious and a language I can fully understand!

Centers
When I came I made the three stones fire which is
what they cook on. Then, I put the plastic plates and food to
play with for dramatic play. The kids really did not play with this much and
it kind of puzzled me a little. But slowly I realized that they do not have to play
because so many of these kids are doing this for real. It is not play to them.
They are constantly helping mother or grandmother with these kind of activities
of the day. I also was thinking about how there were not many things on the
playground for the little little kids. So, I took this "party" outside to the play
house that was Meghan's. It was a win-win giving the little ones something
to do outside and produced little play.

ABC's
We are busy learning our ABC's. We learn the
letters and then also practice writing the letters.
We are currently learning the letters J and K.

Joshua and the Walls of Jericho
I have discovered that this is a favorite to act out.
We made trumpets out of the tops of large water bottles. They
decorated them with gold stars found in the stash of stickers I brought.
We then walked up and down the Center road making beautiful
music with our trumpets. They loved their journey till they passed
Kahlua (Carter's dog.) All the kids both young and old enjoyed this activity.

David and Goliath
The kids made a Goliath and colored him on the floor
then I taped him to the wall and their eye got real big with how
tall he stood. In sheer delight they then took turns trying to reach
his head by throwing paper stones.

We also went outside and found a stone.
Together we painted our stones to put in the window seal of
our classroom to help us remember that our strength comes from God.

Please pray that these kids will
have a love of learning but most importantly
a love of God.
Pray for each by name if called to:
Patroba, Linda, Samwel, Elishama, Sara, Neema, Siliwano,
Yael, Isaya, Fairijika, Ariazari, and Saweeli
