After chai Mary passes out the variety of African instruments to the children. She leads the time of worship. As I sit within the circle the kids smile at me and you can tell there is an anticipation to the time and a joy to come together in song. The older children take turns in leading chants that are simple to follow to the beat. The rest of the children follow playing their instruments in a variety of beats that collectively make a joyous song! Elishama we have found that providing an instrument limits his true heart of worship. Elishama loves to move to the beat. He passionately dances with the beat for God. It is the cutest and extremely moving act. Together with everything that they have make a joyous melody for their King.
Africans pray, together, out loud all at once, and hands held high. Then, one closes in prayer or simply says Amen. The kids have watched and learned. When worship winds down a specific song is sung. With little hands held high they pray together out loud and the older child closes by saying Amen. More than once I have found tears rolling down my checks for the simplicity yet beauty entering the throne room of our God!
Yes I am mwalimu but also happy to be mwanafunzi.
