Yakobo, Eva, and Yohana

The Vine and Branches Sunday School Class at Plainfield Christian Church chose to bless the ministry in Tanzania this year with a Christmas gift to their Sunday School Teacher John Lee and his wife Doris Lee. The gift was to support a family through the Church Planter Training. Yakobo, Eva, and Yohana are the family they have the opportunity to support and pray with as they travel this journey of beginning church planting.

They are from the Tanga area which has a Muslim influence. Yakobo is Msangu which is a small tribe from Mbeya. His parents (or maybe grandparents) moved to Tanga long ago so he was born in Tanga. Eva is a Digo. Their village is north of Tanga and is called Karoyo. The area is heavily Muslim though most are nominal and mix Islam with the traditional animism so it's a folk Islam that they practice. Yakobo grew up in a Christian family though they were just nominal. None were "saved," as they say. He was not saved until after they were married. He became a Christian after someone witnessed to him. Eva didn't become a Christian until a few years after Yakobo. After she received Christ her family chased her away. They wanted to come to training after Lulu and Joseph went to their area to teach about CHE. They were interested in learning not only about the Bible and church planting but also in health and physical lessons. The like the idea of holistic ministry. When they return home after the course they want to reach out to many more people in their area and work with the church they came from and probably start a new church in a new area.

And the Gift keeps on Giving!
